Social Entrepreneurship as a Driver of Development in the DRC

Social entrepreneurship is experiencing remarkable growth in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. An increasing number of young Congolese entrepreneurs are choosing to build businesses that combine economic profitability with positive social impact, addressing the country's many challenges in health, education, and the environment.

CID International's Impact program positions itself as a catalyst for this movement. By supporting social entrepreneurs in structuring their projects and connecting them with investors, the program helps professionalize a still-emerging sector. The most represented fields among supported projects are agritech, digital health, and inclusive education.

However, significant challenges remain. Access to funding is the main obstacle for Congolese social entrepreneurs, who struggle to convince traditional investors of the viability of dual-purpose business models. CID International advocates for the creation of dedicated impact investment funds in the DRC.
